Accessibility Statement
Our accessibility commitment, the WCAG 2.1 AA standard we work toward, known limitations, alternative access on request, and how to report a barrier.
This page is maintained by Emerald & Oak Design and describes the accessibility of emeraldoakdesign.com, the measures we have taken, the limitations we know about, and how to reach us if something on this site is not usable for you.
1. Our Commitment
Emerald & Oak Design is committed to making emeraldoakdesign.com usable by as many people as possible, including visitors who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, screen magnification, voice control, or other assistive technology.
Accessibility is treated as ongoing work rather than a finished state. We review the site periodically and address issues as they are identified or reported to us.
2. Standard We Work Toward
We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as our reference standard. This statement describes the standard we work toward; it is not a claim of certification, third-party audit, or full conformance, and we do not represent that every page currently meets every success criterion.
3. Measures We Have Taken
Semantic HTML landmarks and heading structure on content pages so assistive technology can navigate by region and heading.
A skip-to-content link and visible keyboard focus styles for keyboard-only navigation.
Descriptive alternative text on meaningful imagery, and decorative imagery marked so it is skipped by screen readers.
Accessible names on interactive controls, navigation menus, dialogs, and form fields, with errors announced in text rather than color alone.
Responsive layouts that reflow without horizontal scrolling and support browser zoom and enlarged text.
Reduced-motion support: animated reveals and transitions respect the operating system “reduce motion” preference.
Color and contrast choices reviewed against WCAG AA contrast ratios for body text and interface text.
4. Known Limitations
Some third-party or embedded content — including mapping, social, video, and review widgets — is served by outside providers and is not fully under our control. Accessibility of that content depends on the provider.
Older journal entries and archived project pages may contain imagery whose alternative text is less descriptive than our current standard. We update these as they are identified.
Where a limitation prevents you from accessing information, we will provide the same information to you in an alternative format on request, at no cost.
5. Alternative Access and Accommodations
If any part of this site or our design process is not accessible to you, we will work with you directly. On request we can provide page content by email or telephone, arrange consultations by phone or video, and supply project documents in an alternative format where reasonably practicable.
6. Feedback and How to Report a Barrier
We welcome reports of accessibility barriers. Please tell us the page address, a description of the problem, and the browser and assistive technology you were using. Email miriam@emeraldoakdesign.com or call (704) 595-3555.
We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within five business days and to describe our proposed remedy or timeline within thirty days. If a fix will take longer, we will explain why and offer an alternative means of access in the meantime.
7. Formal Complaints
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate by writing to Emerald & Oak Design, Attn: Accessibility, Charlotte, North Carolina, or by contacting miriam@emeraldoakdesign.com with “Accessibility Complaint” in the subject line. Nothing in this statement limits any right you may have under applicable federal or state law.
8. Changes to This Statement
We may revise this statement as the site changes or as our review process identifies new issues. The date below reflects the most recent revision.
