Luxury Interior Design in Charlotte, NC – Eastover New Construction Estate
New construction in Eastover is exceptionally rare. When a homesite became available on one of the neighborhood's most established streets, the new owners recognized that building in this context demanded more than a custom home — it demanded a residence that would earn its place among Charlotte's architectural landmarks.
Emerald & Oak Design was engaged during the architectural schematic phase, ensuring that every room proportion, window placement, and material transition reflected the interior design vision from the earliest planning stages. This level of early involvement — standard practice at Emerald & Oak but unusual in the Charlotte market — produced a home where architecture and interiors exist in seamless dialogue.
Project Overview
This 8,200-square-foot Eastover estate was built by Peters Custom Homes with Emerald & Oak Design providing comprehensive interior design services from pre-construction through final styling. The commission included architectural interior consultation, complete finish specification, custom cabinetry and millwork design for every room, kitchen and bathroom design, lighting architecture, and whole-home furnishing. The project spanned 26 months from first design meeting to completion.
Design Approach: Contextual Modernism
Designing a new home in Eastover requires sensitivity to the neighborhood's established architectural character — predominantly Colonial, Georgian, and Tudor residences from the 1920s-1950s. The architectural team designed a transitional exterior that respects these precedents while the interior reflects a confident, contemporary luxury vocabulary. Emerald & Oak's interior design creates a material narrative that evolves from traditional public spaces — a formal entry with stone floors and classical millwork — to increasingly contemporary private spaces. This gradient approach allows the home to feel appropriate from the street while offering the clean-lined luxury the homeowners prefer in their daily living spaces.
Custom Cabinetry & Millwork
Custom cabinetry and millwork define the character of every room in this Eastover estate. The kitchen features a 12-foot island in book-matched Calacatta marble with waterfall edges, surrounded by custom cabinetry in a warm taupe lacquer with brass hardware. The family room includes a floor-to-ceiling fireplace wall with integrated shelving and concealed television. The library features walnut paneling with a coffered ceiling and integrated ladder rail. Even the laundry room received custom cabinetry — a commitment to quality in every space that distinguishes Emerald & Oak's approach.

Materials & Finishes
Material selection for this Eastover estate drew from both domestic and European sources. The main-level flooring is wide-plank European white oak in a wire-brushed finish. Bathroom stone was sourced from quarries in Italy and Greece, with each slab personally selected by Miriam Peters during a dedicated international sourcing trip. Kitchen countertops, backsplash, and bathroom surfaces use five distinct natural stones, each selected for its specific location and lighting conditions within the home.
Layout & Spatial Planning
The floor plan balances formal entertaining capability with the relaxed flow of contemporary family life. A central gallery connects the formal living and dining rooms to the kitchen and family room, with sight lines carefully controlled to create moments of reveal as guests move through the home. The primary suite is located on the main level — a planning decision that Emerald & Oak recommended for long-term livability. Secondary bedrooms on the upper level each feature ensuite bathrooms and walk-in closets, with no two rooms sharing the same design vocabulary.
