Luxury Interior Design in Charlotte, NC – SouthPark Pool Pavilion
The pool pavilion has emerged as one of Charlotte's most requested luxury amenities, and SouthPark's generous lots provide the space to execute these structures at a scale that rivals boutique resort facilities. This commission — a 1,400-square-foot pool house with full kitchen, bathroom, changing area, and furnished lounge — demonstrates Emerald & Oak's ability to extend interior luxury into outdoor environments.
Designed in conjunction with a larger estate project on Carmel Road, this pavilion was conceived as a destination within the property — a space where the family gathers on summer evenings and where guests are entertained throughout Charlotte's extended outdoor season.
Project Overview
This SouthPark pool pavilion includes a commercial-grade outdoor kitchen, a full bathroom with shower, a changing area with custom lockers, and a furnished living space with fireplace. The structure features a standing-seam copper roof, stone columns matching the main residence, and a retractable screen system that allows the space to function year-round. Peters Custom Homes constructed the pavilion while Emerald & Oak designed every interior surface, fixture, and furnishing.
Design Approach: Indoor-Outdoor Luxury
Emerald & Oak approached this pavilion with the same material rigor applied to the main residence. Rather than specifying generic 'outdoor' materials, the design team identified performance alternatives that maintain indoor aesthetic standards. Porcelain tile flooring mimics the appearance of aged limestone found in the main home's entry. Cabinetry uses marine-grade plywood cores with thermofoil fronts in a color-matched warm gray. Upholstery uses Sunbrella performance fabrics in patterns and textures that would be equally appropriate in an interior living room.
Custom Cabinetry & Kitchen Design
The pavilion kitchen spans 18 linear feet and includes a 48-inch professional gas grill, dual side burners, a built-in smoker, refrigerator and freezer drawers, an ice maker, dishwasher, and a bar sink. Countertops are leathered Absolute Black granite — virtually indestructible while maintaining a refined appearance. A custom bar area with overhead glass shelving and under-counter wine cooler provides a dedicated cocktail station.

Materials & Finishes
Material performance was the primary selection criterion without sacrificing aesthetic standards. The copper roof will develop a natural verdigris patina over 3-5 years, creating an evolving material character. Stone columns are dry-stacked fieldstone matching the main residence, providing visual continuity across the property. The fireplace surround uses the same leathered granite as the kitchen countertops, creating material consistency within the pavilion.
Technology & Entertainment
Peters Audio Video designed and installed a comprehensive entertainment system including a weather-rated 75-inch television on an articulating mount, distributed audio from eight concealed speakers, and automated lighting scenes that transition from daytime brightness to evening ambiance with a single command. The retractable screen system operates on independent motorized tracks, allowing the homeowners to enclose the space partially or completely depending on weather conditions.
