Luxury Interior Design in Charlotte, NC – Weddington New Construction
Weddington's rolling hills and wooded homesites attract Charlotte-area families seeking the combination of rural beauty, excellent schools, and the space to build truly custom homes. This new construction commission demonstrates the full scope of Emerald & Oak's design capability when engaged from the earliest planning stages.
Working alongside Peters Custom Homes, Emerald & Oak participated in architectural review, contributed to floor plan refinement, specified every interior finish, designed custom cabinetry for twelve rooms, and furnished the completed home — a 24-month journey from first meeting to family move-in.
Project Overview
This 7,200-square-foot Weddington estate includes six bedrooms, five full bathrooms, two half baths, a home office, a recreation room, and a four-car garage. Emerald & Oak's scope encompassed all interior finishes, custom cabinetry design, lighting architecture, window treatments, whole-home furnishing, and art curation. The design reflects the homeowners' desire for a home that feels both grand and approachable — suitable for formal entertaining and casual family life in equal measure.
Design Approach: Transitional Luxury
The interior design language balances traditional architectural elements — coffered ceilings, paneled wainscoting, arched doorways — with contemporary furniture and lighting that prevent the home from feeling dated. This transitional approach creates rooms that appeal to both classical and modern sensibilities, ensuring the design remains relevant as tastes evolve over the decades the family will live in this home.
Custom Cabinetry & Millwork
With twelve rooms requiring custom cabinetry, this project represents one of Emerald & Oak's most comprehensive millwork commissions. Highlights include a double-island kitchen with separate prep and entertaining stations, a home office with floor-to-ceiling built-in bookshelves and integrated desk, and a recreation room wet bar with stone countertops and illuminated glass shelving.

Materials & Finishes
Material selections span domestic and international sources. Main-level flooring is site-finished white oak in a custom stain. Kitchen countertops combine two distinct natural stones — Calacatta marble on the prep island and Quartzite on the entertaining island — creating visual distinction between functional zones. Five bathrooms each feature unique stone and tile selections, ensuring no two rooms share an identical material palette.
Furnishing & Styling
The whole-home furnishing commission included custom upholstery, imported rugs, curated art, architectural lighting, and complete accessory styling. Emerald & Oak managed all procurement, warehousing, and installation, coordinating a single move-in-ready reveal. Key pieces include a custom 10-foot dining table, a sectional designed to the family room's specific dimensions, and a collection of original art by Carolina-based artists.
