Who pays for what appears here

No page on this site is sponsored, and no placement in any list, directory, or guide can be purchased. The firms profiled in the Charlotte directory have not paid to appear, have not reviewed their entries, and are not affiliated with this studio. Brands named in furnishing guides have no arrangement with us regarding their coverage.

The site does not run advertising and does not carry affiliate links. Where a link goes to a manufacturer, retailer, or another studio, it is there because it is useful to the reader, and it earns us nothing if it is followed.

Trade accounts and how they are handled

Like most residential design studios, we hold trade accounts with furniture, textile, lighting, and material vendors. Those accounts are how procurement works in this industry, and pretending otherwise would be the misleading position. What matters is the effect they have on advice.

Specification decisions on a commission are made against the project's brief, budget, and performance requirements. Where a vendor relationship is relevant to a published recommendation, the page says so. Clients receive the terms of engagement for their own project in writing before work begins, including how furnishings are procured and how the studio is compensated.

Third-party names and trademarks

Other companies' names and marks appear here only to identify those companies — nominative use — and never to imply endorsement, partnership, or equivalence. All marks remain the property of their respective owners. Comparison pages describe our own approach and philosophy; they do not assert facts about a competitor's pricing, materials, service, or outcomes.

Any firm, brand, or individual who believes their mark or their business has been described inaccurately can write to miriam@emeraldoakdesign.com and the page will be amended or removed under the corrections process.

Professional titles and scope

North Carolina regulates the use of certain professional titles. Descriptions of this studio and its qualifications are written to comply with those rules, and the studio does not represent itself as offering licensed architectural or engineering services. Structural, code, and life-safety matters are referred to the appropriate licensed professionals on every project that requires them.
