Interior Design for Tega Cay, South Carolina
Tega Cay occupies a peninsula on Lake Wylie in York County, roughly twenty-five minutes from SouthPark and adjacent to Fort Mill. Its houses range from established 1990s lake homes to recent custom construction on the remaining water lots, and nearly all of them are organized around the same thing: the view west across the water. Led by Charlotte interior designer Miriam Peters.
That orientation drives the design work. Rooms face large expanses of glass with strong afternoon light, so we plan finishes for glare, fade, and reflection rather than choosing them from a showroom sample alone. Circulation runs indoors to outdoors constantly, so flooring, textiles, and furniture have to tolerate wet feet and lake sand without looking utilitarian.
Waterfront Interior Design
Waterfront rooms need a different material logic than inland ones. We specify performance textiles and solution-dyed acrylics on primary seating, favor honed and leathered stone over high-polish surfaces that mirror the glare, and use wood tones and plaster finishes that hold up against strong reflected light. Window treatment is a design problem in its own right — the goal is control of afternoon sun without cutting the view that made the house worth building.

New Construction on Tega Cay Water Lots
On new lake houses we join the architect and builder during plan development to work through the interior questions that are expensive to change later: how the great room's ceiling structure reads against furniture scale, where the bunk room and guest suites sit relative to the main living floor, how the kitchen and scullery handle a house that hosts fifteen people on a Saturday, and where lighting and outlets need to be so nothing is surface-mounted as an afterthought. We then document every finish in a single specification package.

We draw mudroom and drop-zone cabinetry, bunk built-ins, boathouse and garage storage, pantry and scullery layouts, and the media and bar millwork that keeps the main room uncluttered — all coordinated with the builder's cabinet shop.
